Topic - Give your kids only 3 gifts at Christmas

The practice of giving each of your children only 3 gifts at Christmas is picking up steam.  Why is this? We now know that the surprise of opening the packages is more thrilling than the gift itself.  And, kids don’t remember half of what they’ve received. The 3 gifts should be something they want, something they need, something to wear and a 4th category for Christmas eve, something to read.  This approach enhances gratitude and appreciation and takes the focus off of excess.  It reduces a child’s narcissism and entitlement. If there’s less focus on the material things, then there can be more focus on the memories.  More time can be spent with each other instead of buying for each other. There is time to make cookies, special treats and have meals together while kids have time off and parents aren’t on the school schedule. It’s an idea whose time has truly come.
